The most interesting thing about Lego Mindstorms is that you can create practically whatever robots you want, thanks to the many possibilities offered by Lego pieces (standard parts as well as Technic parts). A lot of people all around the world build robots with Lego Mindstorms and some of their models are really amazing.
To illustrate this subject, I have chosen “Danny’s Mindstorms” website (http://robotics.benedettelli.com/), created by Daniele Benedettelli. Benedettelli was born on 1984 in Italy and holds a master’s degree in “Robotics and Automation”. He wrote two books about Lego Mindstorms:
- Creating Cool MINDSTORMS NXT Robots published in 2008, which explains how to create and program 7 robots, like the AT-ST from Star Wars, a “mine” sweeper, …

- LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Thinking Robots published in 2010, which allows you to build and program two original robots, a tic-tac-toe playing robot and a Rubik’s Cube solver.

On his website, Benedettelli presents his creations and, for some of them, explains how to build and program them. You can also learn more about his publications and academic researches. Here are some videos of his site, showing two amazing robots he has created: first, “Rubik Utopia”, a rubik’s cube solver, then a portrayer robot.
